Hunting White-tailed Deer

In Kootenai Country Montana, White-tailed deer hunting strengthens many bonds. The bonds with nature, the bonds between all of us hunters and huntresses, family bonding, and the ties with the spirit of adventure! deal picture. We organize scouting trips before the season opens to look for tracks, scat, and fresh antler rubs on saplings that might have telltale hair embedded in the sap. We drive the roads to hang a few flags at important turns that may be difficult to see in rain, fog, and snow. Folks that are serious about their hunting will also time these trips, as we want to get into position before dawn whenever possible.
It’s survival of the sharpest out there, so we get those razor edges on our blades that we will have in our packs. Throwing in a sharpening stone, a first aid kit, a quality compass like the Silva Ranger, extra dry wool gloves and a hat never hurts. Something to seriously consider inserting into packs are those hand warmers in plastic bags. If your hands don’t work well due to extreme temperatures or exposure, these can save your bacon. Hunters include cover scents, calls, and camouflage clothing and makeup if using that disguising aspect. Fire starter and high energy food bars are a great idea too as well as extra fresh water. Our communities welcome our hunting guests from all over, and our local guides who are top of the line will take care of many items on the pre-planning list for our visitors.
Nonresident hunters describe our local guides (see our list on this website) as phenomenal! These professionals will help you site in your rifle whether you shoot a .270, a .338 or any caliber in between, or help peg your bow. Guides and local experienced hunters are willing to share their knowledge on the essence of hunting including early, mid, and late season strategies. Remember to plan your hunt realistically for your physical condition, adjust for changes in wind and weather, and limit yourself to slow, deliberate movements.
